We are pleased to announce that Rachel Wilson (our Practice Manager) has been made a Fellow of the Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists (AMSPAR). This recognizes both formal qualification and length of service in the healthcare field.
Chiropractic Numbers
Globally there are about 100,000 people working as chiropractors. Most practise in North America, where chiropractic originated. In the UK the title chiropractor is protected under law. There are fewer than 3,500 registered chiropractors in the UK and only about a dozen of these work in Cumbria.

Talk to the Women's Institute
We would like to thank the ladies of the Broughton Mills and Woodland branch of the Women’s Institute for inviting us to speak on Wednesday. We really enjoyed exploring the history of manipulation with the group.
Fundraising for Brathay and the British Heart Foundation
Over the last year patients of the practice have helped raise funds for Brathay. We also sponsored Phill Heritage on a cycle from Bournemouth to Glasgow in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Thank you for helping us support these charities.

According to Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, chiropractic had its beginning on 18 September 1895 with the treatment of a man named Harvey Lillard in Davenport, Iowa, USA. The significance of 1895 is reflected in our clinic’s telephone number.
Happy Birthday NHS
The National Health Service is seventy this month. It was formally launched by Aneurin Bevan at Park Hospital in Manchester on 5 July 1948.
Science and Charity (Pablo Picasso, 1897)
One of the images which we own is a print of an early work by Picasso entitled ‘Science and Charity’. It reminds us that good medicine has science as a foundation, but that without a caring and empathetic approach it is wanting. Chiropractic is the same.
Official Opening
Furness Chiropractic was officially opened by Professor Haymo Thiel, the Principal of the AECC University College, on Saturday 21 April.
The occasion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches by Professor Haymo Thiel, Councillor Bill McEwan (Deputy Mayor of Barrow), Councillor John Murphy (Former Mayor of Barrow) and Dr Justin Wilson (Chief Medical Officer for Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust).
